Continuing on to Kostroma we made our way to the town centre just as the rains had cleared. This is the northernmost town on the Golden Ring route and the largest industrial town north of Moscow in this region. It is connected by the rail line to Moscow.
The centre was quite impressive looking despite Tony's claims that everybody here is 'depressed'. There were no run down buildings, graffiti, or drunks lying around, the typical image of lessor developed Russia.
The central square had traditional trading arches as well as the iconic fire tower. This was quite common in Russia for the wood houses to have a high watch tower on top of the fire station.
We spent an hour at the Ipatiev Monastery which will be detailed in the next entry.
We did not have any hotel reservations after our two nights in Suzdal. I found a place I liked and in my budget in booking.com so we drove to Hotel Troya close to the centre. My room was 2200 Rub ($44 Cad). We met back in the hotel restaurant for some warm meals.
