Sergiev Posad was the last of the Golden Ring towns as we were nearing closer to Moscow. Being only 50kms it can be done as a day trip, or either the first/last stop of the Golden Ring route depending on your direction.
I had to be a the airport for 530pm to catch my 8pm flight. Turkish Airlines had moved 2am flight up by several hours cutting short my final day as I had originally planned. It was only about 1pm and we had to get to Moscow and try and do some biking in time to get to the airport for 5pm.
Tony waited in the car and left me to explore. The outside walls were large and first I had to find the ticket office in a big brick building that looks like a train station. Entrance is 500 Rub cash only ($10 Cad).
Once inside it was very crowded and busy with tour groups being so close to Moscow. The complex was quite big and you would need some time to enter all the buildings but I was short on time.
The first was more like a Palace than a Church with its long guilded hall and ceiling art. The outside of all the buildings were equally impressive like cake icing.
I tried to explore the other buildings in the time I had. Having done the six day Golden Ring and 9 days in Russia it wasnt really anything I hadnt seen by this point so could afford to do an express tour.
I actually did what I needed to see in 20 minutes then ran back to the car though it would be nice to come again and not be rushed.
