This was my third trip to Oslo so today I was going to explore some of the medieval church ruins I had found on google maps. After yesterday's biking I was still looking for some new things to do. Fortunately they were easy to reach a few blocks from where I was staying.
The first was in a residential area and easy to overlook. Local probably walk thru or past and not pay attention. There was a marker giving some of the history from the middle ages (more in my vlog below).
Nearby was St Clemens another medieval church ruin. They replaced original wood churches and were some of the most beautiful churches in Norway. By the 16th Century they fell into disuse or were damaged by fire.
To get to the final one you had to cross the train tracks for Central station and walk down to another park. These are not on any tourist maps despite being next to Central station and ignored by tourists and locals. It gave me something different to do for an hour or so.
Back thru the city centre the rains were moving back in. I went into Oslo Cathedral but it did not compare to the churches in Russia. There was a tourist shop with a replica of 'The Scream' so I didnt need to pay to goto the Munch Museum.
On our final day we walked along the river to the Vulkan district which was missing all the tourist crowds.
