I left the hotel at 8.40am to move on from Oxford to Warwick. I'd bought the train ticket the day ahead for 29 pounds as prices change same day. I took the 9.26 train and had to change at Banbury.
At Banbury the train was delayed by almost 30 mins. The 10.05 ended up arriving 10.38. Then instead of going to Warwick it went to Warwick Parkway away from the town centre. My friend started stressing and stressing me more, that we should off at Leamington Spa and wait for another train or take a bus which would waste more time.
I said to just wait for Warwick Parkway and we can walk 20 mins from there back to the town centre. There was a map at the station and we were able to cut thru part of the way along a canal path.
We got to Warwick Castle by 11.30am so had missed my 10am timing due to train delay and going to wrong station. Ticket was 32 pounds which I had already bought online.
After entering the outer ringed wall, was an interior structure. First you enter a Great Hall but there was a noisy school group so I went the other way to avoid. Reminded me of my school trips growing up in UK
Many of the rooms had what looked like wax figures to recreate scenes of daily life. There was nowhere to leave luggage so I had to carry it with me.
The origin of the song "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do" is said to be associated here.
At noon was a daily show which I had hoped to time my visit for. I could already hear the crowds so had to find my friend, and run over to the other side of the grounds outside the walls to find the show
There were two handlers while music and speakers narrated a story. It was good and this alone was worth the visit. Check show times and performances on their site. There is also jousting later in the summer. You can even stay overnight in cabins on the grounds.
Back in the town there were more sights to see. Lord Leycester hospital was an old Tudor building but closed for restoration.
The Market Hall was a free City Museum. Nearby was St Mary's Church. The tower was under restoration but the interior was impressive.
Aside from the stained glass there were crypts, whose tombs include Richard Beauchamp, the Earl of Warwick, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, his brother Ambrose Dudley, Earl of Warwick, and Robert’s son, the “Noble Impe”. We then made our way to the station to get to Stratford Upon Avon
