The landmark site of Laxey is the giant wheel named "Lady Isabella". Coming back off the Snaefell Mountain railway we walked past the workers cottages to find the wheel.
You have to pay to enter the grounds but we already had the museum pass which allowed us entry.
It was built in 1854 so has already celebrated 100 years. You can go up to different viewing platforms.
Nearby is an aqueduct closed to public. At the base is the entrance to the Laxey mine. You have to wear free hardhats. The route only goes 100 metres and there is a rainfall of water so the hat comes in handy.
Nearby is the washing area with a second wheel "Lady Evelyn". There is a mine railway that runs every Saturday which we did not know about and had not timed for.
Nearby was a wool mill museum which had already closed at 4pm. We wanted to get to King Orry's grave who has significance in Manx history.
I had looked these up on google maps and google images. For some reason he has two graves.
We then rejoined the main electric railway line to return to Douglas. Luckily this was the second last train for the day and we had our day pass so didnt have to keep paying.
At the station in Douglas there is a horse carriage to take you to the steam station in south Douglas but we were not going to take it and it had already ended for the day.
