Barcelona, Spain, Spain and Canary Islands
Arrived on the little train that could. We had France Rail Passes and were able to use this on the leg from Narbonne to Barcelona. The trip though the Pyrenees and along the Mediterranean was spectacular. The train station is a closed in vast building with trains parked below. The exhaust from the bunker fuel was hard to take and gave an eerie look to our first impression of Spain. The Expo hotel is a block from the train station and on a major sightseeing route. Our spanish is not good but the people were so helpful. Restaurants - food and wine were exceptional. Barcelona and Catalonia have so much to offer - the stadium from the Olympics, Gaudi, Park Guell, the bull fighting arena and the mediaeval spanish village. Christopher Columbus stands guard over the harbour and probably the best was the walk along La Rambla and the Paella. It was great to get back to some truly warm Mediterranean weather and we vowed we would return.
