Puerto de Montevideo, Uruguay
This small country with gauchos and soccer players is a proud nation of Hispanic origins. The city of 6 million people is both modern and busy - a combination of a sea side resort and a busy commerce area. The Graf Spee anchor found at the harbour reminds one of the Nazi battleship that had put into port for repairs in 1939 but since the British inflicted damage was so severe, the Germans took the ship to sea and scuttled it. We see the Rio Plata - a 200 km wide delta water expanse that is entry port to Montevideo. We see incredible bronze sculptures of Uruguayan wagon trains, the last 4 Indians and a beautiful rose garden made for a love that never did arrive in the country. The guide tells of the 1972 Uruguayan soccer tam that crashed in the Andes.

News of an massive quake in Chile this morning is on the ships TV's . It seems strange and fortunate we just in that area some 11 days ago.
