Sarchi, Costa Rica
we arrive at dawn in the Port City of Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The Harbour is interesting as the village extends onto a peninsula with a mangrove bay behind it. Our bus takes us through this mountainous volcanic country and we climb up the hills through twists and turns to the village of Sarchi. Here the best coffee in the world can be found plus a unique industry dating back some 200 years - the making of colorful ornate ox carts. The painting on the carts is exquisite. Miniature carts can also be had. We travel to the village of Grecia where a metal church dating back to the late 1800's can be found. This area is prone to earthquakes and taking a cue from the Eiffel Tower, they built the church entirely from metal. It its in the middle of a nice park and we enjoyed the relaxed area of the square. Grecia is quite up to date with fast food outlets, stereo shops and all the modern conveniences.
