The Greatest City In Greece

Athens, Greece
After a sea day from Croatia, at dawn we arrived in Piraeus, the port of Athens, Greece. This is the second busiest shipping port in the world as freighters, cruise ships, ferries, hydro foils and high speed boats pass by all day long.   We found the same dock where in Feb 2001 our Anek Lines ferry to Crete departed. It is hot 35C and the Athens traffic is bad. Our tour is called Scenic Athens and The Acropolis Museum. The Scenic Athens portion is a slow drive into the city. The museum is very new and detailed. It is however only on the topic of the Acropolis and that is somewhat limited as compared to the National Museum. The Acropolis and the Parthenon are always amazing. Greece currently has 12% unemployment and their financial situation is apparent from our guide's information. She said a few months ago, their government told them there was no more money and the country needed to stop spending. The opposition said that an election should be called and if they were elected they would give the people all the money the country could pay them. One month later, they were elected and after which the new government told the people there was no money. That’s when the protests and demonstrations started.
