Belize City, Belize
It is early and mist is in the tropical air in the Caribbean sea as our ship winds its route inside the reef to anchor off the Coast of Belize. There are 2 other ships that are taking this same path to their anchorage. . We are met by local tenders that take us ashore to a busy port with restaurants and shops and a waterway with bridges that resemble some European ports. Our tour guide leader take us to an orientation discussion that outlines the changes that the former British Honduras made to become Belize. With only 300,000 people and a tropical climate, their business is tourism and a major attraction is diving and the Blue Hole – a deep 500 ft round cave some 10 miles offshore. Our tour begins with a train excursion around the town that took in the high lights and low lights including the BelCan bridge across the Belize river which was built by Canada and Belize. We even saw a Solara convertible parked in front of Scotia Bank. Our journey ends outside the port area where the girls get the hair braids and we have coconut rum.
