Cape Town - Township Tour

The Townships are areas / districts of Cape Town where
black and colored people now reside in cramped and often poor conditions. There is an organized and methodical program
being implemented to replace the substandard homes with affordable habitation
c/w running water and utilities.
Progress is being made to the extent that in some places that townships
look more like suburb streets. More
needs to be done.

017 – District 6 – an area in Cape Town where the
government of the time forcible evacuated and burned the homes of the black
residents. It was part of the program to segregate races in SA and to this day,
the place is largely uninhabited as a protest to the injustice perpetuated by
the government.

044 – Table Mountain with Razor Wire

028 - Langa – one of the Township communities – housing
with a mural

036 – Langa preschool with students . Amazing nice kids who did not know what
Faye’s toe nail polish was. We brought all of the ship’s evening chocolates to
the kids plus made a nice donation.

055 – Langa home – overcrowded with 17 people in 4 rooms
and from different families with our guide Lu

084 – Monument to the Gugulethu Seven who were gunned
down – read the story here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gugulethu_Seven

108- Statue to Non violence at Victoria and Alfred

115 – Painting from Langa Township artist with recycled
pop cans.

We also passed the Future location of the Christiaan
Barnhard Hospital who our family is all personally thankful for in so many
ways. He is the man who pioneered the
first heart transplant.
