Being Grandparents and Fun Times in Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States
Fun 5 days with the Weishaars.  Kids went to daycare on Thursday and Friday, and we went to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids (GR) on Thursday. Fascinating and informative museum.  You realize and remember what a decent human being and ethical person Gerald Ford was.  He’s from GR, went to UM and played football, spent 30+ years in Congress, was the only President and Vice President who was never elected to the office.  Had lunch in GR at the Morning Belle.
On Saturday, we took the kids to Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek.  Rode the tram, saw lions, cheetahs, goats, cebu cattle, kangaroos, bears, fed a giraffe, and the kids were so entertained.  When we went to the GR zoo in April, Hadley was very reticent.  This time, she kept saying, “more, more.”  She wanted to see more animals.  And, Colin kept his eyes glued to the animals.   It was a fun 2.5 hours!
Sunday, we had dinner at Karen and Mark Weishaar’s along with Alex’s brother Matt and his family.  Karen had a freezer party.  She decided to empty out the freezer and we had a gourmet meal of scallops, shrimp, hamburgers, sausages, tiny chicken wings with chopped salad and fruit.  Apps included jalapeño poppers and shrimp dip and crackers.  Who knew you could freeze raw jalapeño peppers and the sausage filling separately!
Monday, played with the kids outside with bubbles, pushed them in their Little Tykes push cars, and went to the pool.  Had a great time and sorry to say goodbye this morning.  Headed to Davenport on Tuesday.
