Started the trip at a gas station since John told us that exits and gas stations were at a premium. Gas price was $3.45 for regular.
Topography has changed from Iowa and Nebraska cornfields to plains, some forests, and rock formations. One rock formation looked like an old man.
Because of John’s warning, we stopped at the first rest area called the Summit Rest Area, 20 miles out from Cheyenne. Glad we did. Mammoth monument honoring Abraham Lincoln. The first cross continental auto highway was called the Lincoln Highway, now known as I-80. This rest area is the highest rest area on I-80, 8540 feet elevation.
Rest areas in Iowa and Nebraska are about 30 miles apart. Here in Wyoming, it’s more like 60-125 miles apart. About half the exits have no services/civilization at them. Just an exit leading to a road to wherever.
Stopped at a Love’s to gas up. While inside the gas station which is also a convenience store with anything a trucker may need including a shower. While roaming the aisles, we heard over the loudspeaker, “#61, shower 4 is ready for you.
” Love’s also had a Subway and a Chester’s for restaurants.
Oh yeah, regular gas was $3.90 and premium gas was $4.50. Speed limit is 80.
While Wyoming along I-80 seem somewhat desolate, we did see an Amazon Prime truck. Thank goodness, eh, Kim and Erin???
Speaking of desolate, we saw a sign at a rest area that said there are more pronghorn (relative of the goat and antelope) than people in Wyoming. WY has a population of 590,000+ making it ranked 50th in the country for population.
Topography is beautiful and so different with the red rock and plains.
At Leikhims and enjoying time with friends in their beautiful Park City home. You may not hear from me until we leave on Tuesday.
Hope life is good, peaceful, and happy.
So, good night! đ¤
