Park City Highlights

Park City, Utah, United States
Left Park City today heading for Bryce Canyon City.
Lot of wonderful times catching up with the Leikhims and getting to know Park City (PC) and Salt Lake City, otherwise known as The Valley.
So, Friday afternoon to this morning, Tuesday.  Here are the highlights.
Pat and John found a wonderful house sitting on the 14th tee with a view of the mountains.  As we sat on their back deck, we could see folks teeing off with some waving HI!
Saturday, we had a tasty lunch at their club.  After lunch, Dick and John played golf at the club, and Dick shot a 98 and was very happy with John beating him.  While they golfed, Pat and I went into town, and walked the streets of a very quaint city.  Busy, but not crazy as it will be in the winter when the skiers are in town and the Sundance Film Festival takes place in January.  There is even a ski lift that comes right into town!
Sunday, the four of us drove to Deer Valley where there are some beautiful resorts, like the Montage and the Stein Eriksen Lodge, named after the famed Norwegian Olympic skier who took up residence in PC and helped to generate much interest in the PC area.   Found out that Eriksen had a connection to Michigan in that he was a ski instructor at Boyne Mountain in northern Michigan and Pine Knob near the Detroit area.
As part of the drive, we stopped and walked around Silver Lake about a mile.  We got a very nice surprise in that we saw 3 moose.  One of the moose was lying in the grass, so when you see the photo, it’s like “Where Waldo?” except this is “Where’s the Moose?”  Also, included is a video of the two moose in the field.
Aspen trees are abound. So different from home.  Some of them are turning colors from green to yellow and eventually to red before falling.
On Sunday, another highlight was visiting the Utah Olympic Park where the Olympic skiers, bobsledders, luge, and skeleton athletes train.  It’s an amazing facility that was built for the 2002 Olympics in The Valley.  During the non-winter months, the athletes can “ski” down a run and land in a pool.  Yes, a pool.  See the video.  There is also a bobsled, luge, skeleton run that they can train on.   To raise funds and support the facility, you can pay to try some of the facilities, like the bobsled run, ski jump, and also, go on the zip line.  Amazing facility!
Later that day, we visited Pat and John’s son, Chris, and his family (Lindsey, Addy, and Luke) at their home in The Valley.  Lovely home with a beautiful view of the city.  And, after wine on their deck, the four of us headed to dinner at the Current.  What a delicious dinner!
Monday, Dick golfed with John at a state park course, Wasatch State Park.  Beautiful course nestled in a mountain range.  Pat and I went into Salt Lake City to visit the Red Butte Garden.  What a beautiful park with various areas, like the Rose Garden, Children’s Garden, a waterfall area, and a Water Zone area where they planted flowers and other plants by their watering needs.  Really interesting!
After visiting there, we drove to Temple Square where the LDS (Latter Day Saints) community worships.  At Temple Square, Pat and I attended an organ recital in the Tabernacle that seats 3,000.  Probably 50-100 people were in attendance.  If you ever get a chance to attend one of the organ recitals, you really should.  Beautiful acoustics.  The organist demonstrated how without any microphone or amp system, you could hear a pin drop.
We also visited the General Conference Center which can seat 21,000 people and where the semi-annual General Conferences are held.  These are weekend events honoring God.
The Temple at The Church of the Latter Day Saints is under construction to prevent future damage from earthquakes.  The construction is supposed to be done sometime in 2024.
So, Tuesday morning ended a great visit with old friends of about 38 years!
