Breakfast at the hotel, while free, is not great, so we decided to eat at Sweet Cravings Bakery and Bistro across the street from the hotel. Order at the counter and they deliver to you. Dick ordered the Hot Ham N Cheddar and I ordered a Salmon Scramble which was a scrambled egg, cream cheese, smoked salmon mixed together topped with tomatoes on a bagel. Needless to say, we couldn’t eat all of our breakfast.
The ride out of Moab to I-70 was spectacular, seeing some of Arches at a distance. Once on I-70, saw some other majestic mountains.
We decided to get gas at the Gypsum, CO exit, going to a Shell gas station where the gas seemed to priced well. On the gas sign near the exit, Dick saw Costco Gas on the sign. We thought for sure that this was a mistake. However, sure enough, there it was about three miles from I-70. Gypsum has a 2019 population of 7,200. So, how does a small community get a brand new Costco? Dick found out from a local. The Aspen airport is few miles away, and the skiers in Aspen and Vail go straight to Costco before heading to their accommodations.
Regular gas - $3.14/gallon and Premium gas - $3.84/gallon.
So, time for lunch, and we found the Eagle Diner a few miles from Costco. A 1950’s diner with 2021 prices. Dick had a BLT and fries, and I had a chili cheese dog with a salad. Needless to say, we didn’t it all.
After lunch, we drove through some amazing country. Near Copper Mountain, which is a ski area for the uninitiated, we even saw ski runs in the grass, but more importantly, we saw snow up in the mountains. And, we started seeing fall color change to yellow and gold so far.
We got into Denver about 3:45pm and rush hour started! Don’t think anyone is working remotely! It was crazy!
Checked into the hotel, relaxed, and set out for dinner at Mod Pizza. Split a small pizza, and we did eat it all! Then, we headed back to the hotel. On the way back, we saw a beautiful sunset that Dick said it reminded him of the Japanese rising sun. Now, watching NCIS and NCIS Hawaii.
Tomorrow, we head to Junction City, KS.
