Nacula Island, Yasawa Islands, Fiji
Nacula Island- Blue Lagoon

This morning we have a trip to the blue lagoon, so called because of the colours of the water and tropical fish that swim there. We had all kinds of cake for breakfast this morning, which was lovely. Gave us lots of energy. After breakfast, we packed up our stuff, as we have to check out today. Once that was sorted, we got a boat transfer to the island of Nacula, where the blue lagoon is. This is where the film Blue Lagoon, with Brooke Shields was filmed. I couldn't bring my little camera, as yesterday when we went to the caves, I took it there and it got wet, so it's not working now. Hopefully it will dry out.

Once we got to the island, I noticed it wasn't actually a lagoon, it was just the sea, but still it was beautiful here all the same. Our guide anchored up the boat, we fed the fish bread. There were loads of fish all trying to get a bite on the bread, and they were all around the people snorkelling. Once we did that, we got to go snorkelling. There were some striped fish which just stay right near the beach, as the water is so clear, you can see these fish swimming around you. We got our snorkelling gear on and went snorkelling. As we swam out a little further, we noticed there were huge shoals of fish really close to us. These were those zebra type fish. They were swimming right at us and were following us while snorkelling. I had to take my snorkel off to let out water, and all these fish gathered around me. I was literally surrounded by them. I've never seen so many fish around me. I couldn't swim away there was so many of them. Some kind of swordfish were swimming near me and a couple poked me with their razor sharp nose, which scared me as I thought they would draw blood. We carried on swimming around and saw so many more fish, it's the best place to snorkel with fish, but not for coral. After that we walked along the beach where Blue Lagoon was filmed, which was a nice stretch of beach, I wish I had the camera with me.

After the snorkelling, we went back for lunch and to check out of the Long Beach resort. Most people played cards while we waited for our boat transfer, while I went round taking pictures of the island. At about 2pm, we caught the boat transfer to the catamaran. Then the catamaran transfer took about an hour to get to Barefoot. When we got on the boat, there were the most people getting off here than any other island we've been to yet. A friendly guy made us all introduce ourselves on the boat. It seemed pretty organised before we even got off the boat.

Drawaqa Island- Barefoot Resort

When we arrived one man was playing a guitar and a few people were singing. We all got introduced and told about all the activities on the island. There were a long list of activities you can do here, you could easily spend a week or more. They then took us on a tour of the island and showed us to our rooms. We got a sunrise bure, so we must watch the sunrise tomorrow morning.

Tubing

Once we settled into our room, we took a walk around and decided to make use of the free tubes. Most things you have to pay for, but you can borrow the tubes for free. So we took them out into the sea. I've never done tubing before, I tried spinning myself around and it was a lot harder than I thought. John had to pull me as I couldn't turn around at first. However, after a while, I got the hang of it, so I could spin around. It was quite fun when the waves came as you bounced in the air. We stayed in the water tubing for about half an hour. I enjoyed it, but it would be more fun tubing through rapids.

Not long after we got out of the water, did it start to absolutely pour down. That was a shame as on this island, you can watch the sunset as well as the rise. We're not having much luck watching subsets here in Fiji, but it is monsoon season. The rain carried on for ages, so we missed the subset again. We'll try again tomorrow with a subset cruise.

Coconut bowling

We got called to dinner by the drum roll. As it rained too hard, we didn't get to eat dinner at the sunset bar, which was a shame. Luckily the rain stopped while we were eating dinner. This meant we all got to play coconut bowling. It's like the game of bowls. We sat with an English girl at the dinner table, so she was in our bowling team. The team name was Vonu, which is the name of a Fijian bitter. Basically each team has their own coconut, which they had to throw into the circle. The people who get closest to the circle get points. We all took turns and on my turn, I got the coconut right on the edge of the circle. I got us 2 points, it's first to 10, and there are about 8 teams all competing. John didn't win us any points this time, Hannah got a few points, and so did I. It wasn't enough, however to give us a win, and we ended up coming 4th. The winning team got free drinks at the bar. I really liked playing and was better at it than I thought. After the excitement, we went to bed to find a rat in our room. I'd left a packet of coconut biscuits open, so the rat had taken one out and was feasting on it in our room- nice!
