The white temple damaged by the earthquake

Chiang Rai, Bangkok, Thailand
We woke up in the morning to another small tremor! It was only a small one, but it's a surefire way to get you out of bed in a hurry. There were no other tremors, luckily, so we didn't rush outside. We just packed up our stuff to check out and waited to be picked up by our minivan to Chiang Kong.

On our way to Chaing Kong, we were allowed to stop at the white temple in Chiang Rai. It's closed to the public today as it has some structural damage from the earthquake that struck last night. On our way to Chiang Rai, there was a diversion as part of the road collapsed. The earthquake hit Chiang Rai harder than we felt in Chiang Mai.

When we got to the temple, we could see that one of the spires had fallen down. There wasn't any other noticeable damage to that building, however, one of the smaller buildings had lost some tiles from the roof. It was a shame, but it will probably all be fixed within a few days. The good thing about the temple being closed is that there was nobody in the background when we took our pictures. It would have been good to visit the inside of the temple, but at least we were getting to see it anyhow. It's a beautiful building and temple, I wish we had more time, but we only had 10 minutes there. We briefly looked at it, took our photos and left to carry on our journey to Chiang Kong.

When we got to Chiang Kong, we were shown to a little guest house which overlooked the Mekong Delta. It wasn't anything special, but the views and the company made up for things. We were served egg fried rice for dinner, which wasn't much at all, but it will have to suffice. We got chatting to our fellow travellers, one of which was an interesting Portuguese girl, who's travelling for 3 years. We stayed chatting for a few hours, then went back to our room. Although it's no frills accommodation, it has wifi, a television and a fridge, so it's got all we need for a night. We're getting up early ready to board the slow boat to Luang Prabang, so it won't be a late night for us.
