Deb here: Today started just a bit later since we had such a full (and "liquid") day yesterday. TJ and Mare got up earlier than me (of course) and watched the hot air balloons take off again. And speaking of hydrating...we started the morning out right with mimosas and Bloody Marys....breakfast of champions! The breakfast buffet has been wonderful so far. TJ and I had omelets and Mare mixed things up a bit with made-to-order chicken and waffles...yum!! It has been a nice and relaxing morning.
We started off on our shopping adventure
. TJ came out of the gate buying a very nice pair of black leather gloves - don't think she will need to whip them out anytime in the next few days! Next we visited the shops in V Marketplace. I found some cool smelling soaps in NapaStyle and a snazzy black jacket at i.Elle and TJ got a bright pink (and very cute) top there. TJ and I also couldn't resist the bracelets at A Little Romance - very unique looking pieces! Next stop was California and Vine where I picked up some Napa t-shirts for my bestest hubby and sis. Then it was time for a quick lunch at Pacific Blues...nachos, beer, wine and iced tea. Whew...all that shopping can work up a girl's appetite!! On our way out we ran into our new friends from the wine tour yesterday, Marty and Cookie from NY. We chatted for a while and found out they will be dining at the same restaurant tonight where we have reservations...small world! Back at the room now and resting up for tonight - and of course working on our travel blog too!
We rested up a bit from our big day of shopping and decided we needed to shower before making our way to our restaurant of choice for the evening
. But first we took one of our wine purchases from yesterday downstairs to the patio to sip on before making the short trek over to Bottega, Chef Michael Chiarello's (of Food Network's Easy Entertaining fame) restaurant for dinner. Mare and TJ chose Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wine for dinner and I, once again, opted for iced tea - one of us needed to remain sober (for whatever reason). Tonja chose Prosciutto e Anguria to start her meal off and Mary chose one of my favorites, Caprese di Burrata e Pomodoro, that was to die for. My entree of Lasagnetta di Zucchini al Forno came with a salad so I enjoyed extra bread and parmesan spread (another to die for experience) plus some of their starters while waiting for the main course. For dinner Tonja decided on Raviolo di Uovo (with an egg in the middle)....hmmm....interesting. Mary chose the Spaghetti Gragnano alla Sophia Loren which she liked better than Tonja liked her egg creation (see update below)! I personally think I made the best choice which is good since I had to eat it!
We saw our new friends Marty and Cookie at the restaurant and decided to head over to Hurley's, across the street, for an after dinner drink together
. After great conversation, pictures, email exchanges, and hugs, we said goodbye to them and wished them a safe journey to San Francisco tomorrow. We really enjoyed meeting and getting to know them a bit and appreciated the round of drinks Marty bought for the table. Got back to the room, brewed some coffee and I'm sitting on the balcony finishing up my day of blogging. It has been another fun and relaxing day but I think it is time for this old lady to hit the hay. Good night all!!!
Foodie details:
Prosciutto e Anguria - prosciutto, purslane, Calabrian vinaigrette, torn mint
Caprese di Burrata e Pomodoro - local heirloom tomatoes, balsamic "caviar"* and basil oil
Lasagnetta di Zucchini al Forno - wood oven baked zucchini lasagna with potato and tomato sauce, shaved mushroom & celery salad, broken tomato vinaigrette
Spaghetti Gragnano alla Sophia Loren - spaghetti from Gragnano, cooked in tomato leaf-infused tomato water with slow cooked skin-on tomato sauce, crisp garlic root thread, basil and black garlic
Raviolo di Uovo - potato pasta filled with spinach ricotta, farm yard egg yolk and truffle sage brown butter
tj here: Update on the ravioli dish with egg. As I was gathering info for the foodie details, I realized I had potato pasta. At the time, either due to a glitch in my short-term memory or maybe the wine(?), I thought I was eating regular pasta. My main complaint was that the pasta tasted undercooked and doughy. Now I realize it was probably cooked to perfection. So I retract my negative comments about my dish. I really liked this restaurant.
