Chanoud to Udaipur

Pali, Rajasthan, India
I wasn't sure what to expect when we came to the village, the roads became narrower and narrower, how Pradeep got around the corners  I don't know. Bikes, cows, sewage drains! However we both feel sad leaving the area now. The people were so friendly, the hotel was great, food superb.
We were shown the hospital before we left the village. A lovely new building with Intensive Care, a pharmacy, maternity ward and male and female wards though nobody there at the moment. They have about 16 babies delivered each month and to ensure  daughters are not abandoned or worse (they are so expensive due  to their dowries) , the government gives the parents 50,000 rupees in installments.
Every child was vaccinated. If a child has a dog bite two injections are given over two days and further injection if the dog dies.
There were a few traffic jams on our way to the main road, herds of sheep and goats and at one time two herds of goats got caught up with sheep and a herd of cows joined in and accompanied by a large group of dogs.
To get to Udaipur we went over the cool Aravelli hills stoping at Ranakpur, the biggest Jain  temple in India - 29 halls, 80 domes and 1444 pillars, an incredible sight. It seemed it was our day for "herds" as we  stopped for a troup of monkeys and a family of mongoose. Along the way we passed two oxen irrigating onions and garlic by turning a water wheel, also oxen pulling a stone harrow and tiller and women carrying stooks of grass on their heads for the hayrick.
We arrived at Fateh Prakash Palace late afternoon. Fab-u-lous. There is a picture of the view from our window over Lake Pichola.

Monkeys are Hanuman Langur. Very interesting range of behaviours, but can be a bit vicious.
