Los Gatos or Bust

Los Gatos, California, United States
The big travel day arrived. We were up by 5:25 am, espressoed up and out the door with the kind assistance of the Sheraton bell hop.
British Airways was amazing, getting us everything we needed and escorting us to the gate. It was an incredible feeling to finally board and settle in for the short flight to London. Mom did her airplane yoga en route and we all breathed our first big sigh of relief.
Arriving in Heathrow, we again got excellent service, being escorted to our next gate. The fellow even kept offering to stop in case we wanted to shop. The flight home was long but very, very doable, comfortable, not worrisome.  And lo and behold, when we emerged - there were Pauline and her husband Ed. A sight for sore eyes as you can imagine. We were all pretty exhausted and Pauline's pampering and delicious home cooking has been the cure for what ails ya. Carrrot soup, delicious breads, cozy beds and everything just so wonderful. We also got to have some sense of how Mom does on stairs and in an actual house. So far so good. Stopping in California has turned out to be a really good decision as Mom still tires very easily and spends a lot of time resting.
We had a really nice visit with cousin Sylvia, Uncle Henry and Uncle Albert. We are so grateful to Pauline’s family (her sweet kids came down from SF for our last night) and to EVERY single person who helped us along the way. We depart in the morning for Honolulu and can't wait to get Mom home safe and sound.
I really can't imagine having done this with anyone other than my crazy sister. Here's a final parting shot of her with a very big salami purchased in Los Gatos at Kira's request. Hey Wally, we did it!

I just read the blog from start to finish. What an experience! I am so grateful your Mom received such excellent care. I know Italy is advanced when it comes to medicine because Mark has studied with cardiologists there. I hope if you come to Cali again you'll call me Santa Barbara is only 90 minutes away! Thanks for sharing your trip. I love your writing and I learned so much about handling life's challenges with grace.
