Cardwell, Queensland, Australia
Travelling from Airlie we stopped off to take a BIG photo shot of the "BIG Mango" at Bowen. Stopped overnight at Cardwell which was hit hard by Cyclone 'Yasi'. Travelling into Cardwell was a viewing of trees still on a slant and the devastation of homes and buildings, so hard to believe what they went thru. Booked into Kookaburra Van Park lovely area where we met couple (Alison and John from Nambucca Heads) who arrive around March/April and then head back home in September. They and whole group of their other travellers they have met over time do this every year - something to look forward to I reckon as we age. Went down to local hotel "The Lyndoch" which was flattened by Cyclone Yasi to watch the first state of origin game - very brave we think being on Queensland turf - turned out alot of NSW supporters. Joined in the sweeps arranged, stayed for tea - though we passed on the pasta cabonara @ $28 (they did say a large meal - still passed). Walked home at half time (yes princess Jayde had enough) with $35 winning from sweeps.

Had a lovely evening with the locals and also knowing we had supported the community in some way .
