Day 40 – Bungle Bungle - Western Australia

Tuesday, June 28, 2011
Bungle Bungle National Park, Western Australia, Australia
Left early to go into Bungles as drive is approximately 2 hours travelling into Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungle) around 53Km and over 41 creek crossing and then needed to do same when coming out.

Visited the South side first and went to Catherdal Gorge, wow what a site when you final get to the end of the track you see this large hollow dome and understand why it is called the Catherdal Gorge the only thing missing was a organ being played . Next was the Piccaninny Creek Walk to Piccaninny Lookout not as existing as we thought. Had lunch before heading to the North side. Jayde not in mood for walking today, especially with no swimming involved.

Walked through rocky path (should say dried up river) into Echidna Chasm, awesome views in the Chasm we thought we had reached the end when Jayde said there was more track into the Chasm (there were about 5 other people there as well) and what a veiw when we reached the end everybody was glad they had continued. Visited the Osmand Range Lookout, and had one more stop at Kungkalahayi Lookout (wishing we had time for a glass of wine whilst taking in this breathtaking view) which gave a spectacular 360 degree view.

Left Bungles a little later than expected, lost our front number plate crossing one of the creeks, and drove the last ¾ hour back in the dark, had a shower and was glad we had booked to have tea, homemade pumpkin soup and beef casserole, damper and then sat around the campfire with others and told stories of each other travels.
