Day 55 – Broome, Western Australia

Broome, Western Australia, Australia
Off we went to Middle Lagoon, (Cape Leveque) for three nights. Approximately 1 hour into trip and about 50Km across awful corrugated/bumpy road and sometimes narrow in sections with high raised sandy sides and then thump and William looked at side mirror and seen a tyre travelling behind us Yep our trailer wheel on passenger side went spinning off and came to a halt about 50m into the scrub We were awfully lucky that being on sandy road and didn't damage to much of the axle, or the wheel didn’t hit anyone behind us or oncoming and William able to find wheel.

We had a car come and stop who tried to lend assistance, but realised unable to help as we weren’t too sure what we were going to do, the outer bearing had discinergrated . Then two other cars stopped Paul and family in one, and Frank and his wife in the other, neither new each other yet! With the three of the men working together (lucky William had a spare bearing) were able to get wheel fixed enough for us to travel back to Broome – ending our trip up to Middle Lagoon today. Words could not say thank you enough to Paul, Frank and their families. (Pictures dont show William doing much but he was in there as much as the others)

Went back to Gadget (the mechanic) who would try hardest to fix pending if able to get bearings but would not be done until around 5.00pm – so no home tonight. We had intention to go back up the next day if all was good.

Then went back to Visitors Centre to let them know the circumstance and to ring Middle Lagoon to cancel first night accommodation, and all being well pending if all fixed will get there the next day and also see if could find us some accommodation for the evening. Booked us into The Mangrove Resort Hotel a night of luxury and comfort, nice shower, bed, TV, pool, especially after upsetting and emotional event. William with Jayde went to buy some clothes (his were a mess from fixing the trailer) + beer as all in the camper. Went to The Mangroves Tidal Bar for dinner. Lovely evening overlooking Roebuck Bay having drinks and listening to music, especially after receiving a phone call from Visitors Centre to inform us that Middle Lagoon had cancelled all our remaining nights accommodation (NOT HAPPY), but Gadget rang to say trailer all fixed and pick up in the morning (HAPPY). Thank you William for looking after your family.
