Sunday headed over
to airport to checked in at Air Canada for our 10.15am flight to Vancouver-Anchorage-
Fairbanks – luggage checked in all the way through.
Fourteen and half hours later
landed in Vancouver disembarked for 2.5 hour wait to fly to Anchorage had quite
an experience going through US Customs because we forgot to remove two bottles
of water in Williams backpack it was sent to the screening area where bags
needed to be checked, first conveyor broke down then had to line up behind 12
other people who were getting their bags checked. They pulled everything out
and scanned for drugs, it took ages, got bag back minus water, then had to go
through self service passport checking with scanning our fingerprints and photo taking, then stood in line for US to check our passport and fingerprints again - 1.5hs
later finally through where is the closest bar – yep stood at bar not crowded
and waited and waited for 5 minutes – well we moved on without having that
beer. Next flight from Vancouver to Anchorage provided a stunning view of snow-capped
mountains was possibly inside passage from left hand side of plane – in
Anchorage found a bar had a couple of beers and hush puppies (whiting fried in
coconut/panko crumbs – similar to an arancini ball) and wedges hallelujah so
nice to sit down and relax awaiting flight with Alaskan airlines to Fairbanks.
The travel testing us at this stage dozing off, hard to stop staying awake –
nudging each other for snoring soooooo tired.
Boarded Alaskan flight from Vancouver to Fairbanks no view
on this flight (Cloudy) – Happy to see our baggage arrived with us, walked out of Fairbanks airport and
welcomed with beautiful sunshine Fairbanks had had a fair bit of rain previous
couple of days – taxi to our Rivers Edge Resort accommodation – quaint little
resort with individual cabins along the river – “forget about caravan or RV” –
checked in, showered and slept for a few hours. After strolling less than 2 minutes to Chena Restaurant attached to Resort – Meal divine
