Denali National Park and Preserve, Alaska, United States
Due to recent heavy rain causing a wash outs at Teklanika River, our 92 mile trip to Kantishna had to be cancelled and they provide us with an option to do a 32 mile trip departing at 2.15pm. Between Jose, Maggie, Sonja, Paul and ourselves we decided to trek Triple Lakes trail, day was absolutely glorious nearing the first lake people were indicating to be quiet as a moose and calf were watering for about 15-20 mins was so surreal and calming was like a picture from a book. Continue onto lake two easy walking very beautiful calming no wild life spotted here. Headed back to Hotel and prepared for a 2.15pm adventure into Denali National Park. (Several interpretive stops enhance the experience, beginning with a stop at the Savage Cabin, the original ranger’s cabin, provides a living history into how the cabin was once used and how it continues to be used today). Our bus trip and commentary from bus driver Jen was excellent, seen moose and caribou missing out on seeing any bears. Stopped along the way where Melanie an Athabaskan young girl provided background of her ancestors from the land. Arriving back approximately 7.30pm headed down to Burger Shack for a meal and listen to music. Meet Geoff from Chicago, his friend and wives showed us a video of a bear and her two cubs walking in the middle of the road they left on a bus approximately 20 mins before us – Bugger we just missed the bears
