Juneau, Alaska, United States
Up early to grab free shuttle to Airport. Went to check in luggage and was told allowable weight 50lbs, Debs 55lbs & William 52lbs (overweight baggage cost extra $100), attendant at Alaska Airlines helps us with providing a box & tape it up at no extra cost (great service).
Arrived at Juneau, Alaska’s remote capital, located in the Gastineau Channel and the Alaskan panhandle, at the base of 3,819-ft. Mount Roberts. It’s a popular cruise-ship stop, reachable only by boat or seaplane. Grabbing a cab (costing $US20) along with great commentary from Doug (our cab driver who has lived in Juneau whole life), on history of Juneau & places to go and see before dropping us off to our motel Four Points by Sheraton. Motel located directly opposite where we board for our 14 day cruise with 'Uncruise' on Friday 16th August 2019. After checking in to our room went for a walk downtown and along sea walk, quite a few big cruise liners in port, late in afternoon we thought about going up to Mount Robson on the Tramway, but decided to do it first thing tomorrow (should never put off things when you have time, you don't know what tomorrow brings). Walked back along the main street and found The Red Dog Salon (where a couple of people we meet suggested to go). Lovely place with sawdust floors and antiques hanging from the ceiling and walls, it was a great afternoon listing to a gentleman aged about 80 singing Bawdy Ballads and having fun with the audience (from about 3-5pm), a quick bite to eat and a couple of local beers. We went down stairs to the bar for a couple of beers, before heading across the road to Tracy's Crab Shack for tea.
