Juneau, Alaska, United States
When we woke looked out window drizzling rain and heavy cloud cover, we could not even see Mt Robson (like we said should never put off for tomorrow). We decided to go for a walk along the waterfront boardwalk to Overstreet Park, the large waterfront park stretches over half a mile. Its most notable feature is a breaching whale sculpture called Takhu, when we got there we thought this is nice and nicer once whale's fountain started with coloured lights (The lights are adjustable and will be changed to colors representing special occasions and holidays like green and red for Christmas and orange for Halloween.) giving a completely different look once water commences spurting looking like the whale breaching out of the water. We walked back to town and found a coffee shop for a bite to eat and noticed the fog and clouds lifting from Mt Robson, deciding to buy tickets ($US39 each) for Tramway to Mount Roberts, in case tomorrow may be worst and miss out. (The Mount Roberts Tramway is an aerial tramway located just south of downtown Juneau. In operation since 1996, the tram makes a six-minute ascent height of about 1,800 feet (550 m) to Mount Roberts). The scenery once up there was absolutely beautiful, walked along the Alpine Loop trail, well maintained and offers a loop tour through some of the various ecosystems at the top of Mount Roberts, it's about 0.5m hike up about 150ft to Father Browns Cross. Travelling down meet a couple from Northern Ireland who had travelled to Australia for Nephews Wedding in April at Marlee (near Taree), they said Australia is a great country and enjoyed their time. When we arrived back at Mt Robson lodge grabbed a couple of beers and sat out on balcony and enjoyed the view. Got Tramway back to bottom taking cruisey walk back to motel taking in some local sights, and coming across a place welcoming to go on in, being curious opened up door with a heavy whiff of weed, ahh it was one of many Weed Houses in Juneau. Have a lovely tea at Four Points Hotel.
