Basket Bay, Alaska, United States
When we woke Deb decided to go to 7.30am stretch class and William up to the lounge for a coffee before breakfast. 8.00am brekkie this morning French Toast crumbed in cornflakes with banana and honey-Yummy, William went with the omelette special After breakfast we were informed of our days activities Bushwhacking in the morning and Kayaking in the afternoon.
9:15 am ready to endure and experience Bushwhacking Hike in Iyoukeen Bay (don't forget to slide onboard or onshore on the Board). Today we could choose either a leisurely or active hike through old-growth forest to learn about ecology and watch for brown bear signs.  Our skiff dropped our group lead by the beautiful Meghan on the beach, then commenced our Bushwhacking experience, no trails, just dense scrub, walking up and over large fallen trees, up and down terrain. Not fare into our hike before we found out why they call it Bushwhacking, if you were not careful you would be hit by a branch from the person in front of you hehe. Hike went for approximately 2. 5hrs it was fantastic, unfortunately or fortunately no wildlife sightings, back out of forest we walked back along the beach to meet our skiff ride back to SS Legacy.
After our yummy lunch (Salmon Salad with a side of MacCheese for Debs, William went with the Veg Salad with MacCheese). Pulling up anchor we cruised to Basket Bay. Beautiful afternoon kayaking in the Bay so surreal and calm,  as we approach the grotto (cave) a seal popped it's head up directly in front of us, so cute then we lost him, we paddled into the grotto to have a look around, wow, so narrow but calming and quiet on heading out our little friend darted straight passed us under water heading into the grotto, it was amazing he just looked up at us and didn't seem to be scared. We kayaked along the shoreline around the whole Bay it was glorious, the water was so clear you could see little jellyfish with different colours, we had a good 4hrs paddling. Back on board we pulled up anchor, on our way out of the bay and into Chatham Strait the Captain spotted some whales, it was time for everybody to grab their cameras head out onto the deck and with that we were presented with a glorious sunset to cap a great day.
