Reserva Natural Absoluta Nicolas Wessburg

Got up and were ready for another adventure . Laura was not in the best of moods but soon flipped the switch and had a nice time. We decided to walk to the edge of Playa Grande and check things out.

Walked the road toward Ylang Ylang passing through the area where the campers are and the cemetario. Don't know if beach camping is still in my idea of having fun but there were quite a few campers in this area and also down near the beach hotel/hostels are. Don't know where the fresh water or ablutions are but this is not my problem!

Once you pass Ylang Ylang, you start going up down a path that is cut out of the lava and is not a smooth path at all. Have to watch where you are walking up and down and up and down. As you walk along the trail does open up and you get some nice views out across the Golfo.

There was quite a nice breeze that made it much nicer for the walk. Because of the wind, there were quite a few wind surfers out on the water . They were so impressive to watch even to the point of coming clear out of the water!

There is an area where the lava path stops and beach opens up. There is a creek that comes down out of the hills and some nice pools at the base of it. We speculate this is where the stream we have hiked to in the past comes out but are not sure. Would take a hike up the stream to find out. This is also a area where there is rock stacking is going on. None of them are very elaborate but nice to look at. Laura tried her hand at stacking some rocks and managed to get five up but when we returned the wind had blown two of them off!

Did the last steep hill where the signs explaining the life and death of the couple that were responsible for so much of the creation of the National Parks in Costa Rica. Came down off the steep incline and took a much needed break. Had a snack of peanut butter and Marie's that do not travel very well along with some mixed nuts. Will add oranges to the mix later.

Decided it was time to head back. Got up over the steep hill and ran into a couple trying to decide if it was worth the climb in flip flops. As we were talking, heard the sound of quad bikes and here come two with policemen on them! We have not seen much of a police presence here in the past but this is the second time we have seen police on quad bikes in the area. They actually climbed up the path and headed to Playa Grande we presume. The policeman in the back had to back up and try the path again, I'm sure to his embarassment!

Walked back with the couple who happened to be from Alaska along the beach and discussed the possible places they could go in their week in Costa Rica. Had discovered as many do, the roads do not allow the quick and easy travel they were hoping for but had the right attitude and were glad to hear our suggestions.

Did a little shopping before heading back up to Luna Llena. Fixed quesadilla, salad and fruit for lunch and dinner at Luna Llena was Chinese mustard greens in coconut milk curry. All in all it was a nice day.
