Marc had to be up at 0530am this morning to head to Sipadan after that deep dive yeast there is no way I could deal with looking at a 600m drop into the ocean haha – as I said to Marc I would love to go to see the sharks but it would be like a corner shop dive……… pop in for 5 mins get what you want and get back out haha.
I had the worst night sleep having random dreams about Marc and Sipadan I was so worried I knew the currents can be strong not to mention the sharks he had 4 dives to do out there so it would be a long day
. So I was left chilling this morning catching up on blogs, I have one more dive to do to complete my PADI but one more mask removal too aggggggg.
I headed down to the jetty in the afternoon, I had to skills to do on the surface of the water, remove my BCD (jacket vest thingy) and weights in the water and get back into it, swap from regulator to snorkel on the surface and mask removal, I also had to do a swim for 6 meters underwater with my mask off !!! Well today was a good day - I managed to do it all fine, I am feeling much better about it all now, my instructor Steve is a legend he gave me the confidence to do it all, he was so patient and encouraging and was hi 5'ing me under the water when I did it ok - all these things just make you feel so much better it was great.
My Last Dive
Then we headed off for my last dive - we headed down to 18m again but this time it wasnt so scarey as there was no reef shelf it was just a gradual descent so visually didnt look so bad
. We came back up the reef and we saw loads of cool fish again, then as I turned my head to the left I nearly had a heart attack - a HUGE giant green turtle had lifted itself from the rock and swam just over my head, Steve said it was easily 2m long from head to tail and it was over 1m wide. It was sooo graceful swimming along with us I had to lift my flippers to let it under me then it came up and was swimming towards me I just stayed still and it swam around me - it was unreal I could have reached out and lay on the back of him he was so big its sooo temping to touch them but its not right so I just watched. He stayed with us for a bit then went to itch its shoulder on a rock so we left him there. Things like that make it all worthwhile, seeing that in crystal clear water is just utterly amazing.
I popped my head up from my dive when it was finished and there was Marc again - I couldn't wait to find out about his day shark'ing at Sipadan. I climbed out of the water and up the jetty - the tank & equipment weights about 15-20kg out of the water so its hard work hehe.
I had now officially qualified as a PADI open water diver - it has been THE most scary, amazing, challenging yet satisfying experiences of my life and I am so glad I got back in the water and that I had Steve as my instructor. I will definitely go diving again I have overcame so much in the last few days and I definitely feel more confident just being around water so its all good. Now its time for some dinner and a well deserved beer and to hear about Marcs day at Sipadan so read the next post for his story.
