Dolphin Feeding
So we woke up early doors we had to be at Tin Can for 7
.30am and it was around 45 mins away so we just woke and drove straight there. Marc loves the dolphins so this was great, the 2 are wild dolphins but for years they have been coming into the bay each morning - they only get fed a little amount so that they still fend for themselves in the wild.
We get to stand for half an hour in the water beside them then at 8am you can buy the food - so for $5 you get a bucket of fish - what we didnt realise that it was a fish as in just ONE hehe - we had to laugh - anyway Marc got his fish and got to feed it and I got a good photo thankfully or else it was another $5 haha.
Head back North !!
So we had heard in Rainbow that the whale watching was excellent just now - what we didnt realise that at Hervey Bay (which was 105km back north from where we can) you could get the boat and be guaranteed a sighting or your money back. This was bit of a dilemma, it was a 2 hour drive back up the country and it was also £70 each but in the end we decided to go for it - we had both always wanted to see whales and we saved money from not doing Whitsundays so off we went driving back up the road we came
.
Whale of a Time
We arrived there around 11am and the boat left at 1pm so we got it booked and stayed in a campsite since it was a big town and it didn't look like we could find somewhere dodgy to park for free.
We headed off on the boat and again it had free food on it - we are total munchers haha. We headed out about 50 mins from the shore and it wasnt long before we seen some. It was totally amazing there were baby whales breaching out of the water and they looked huge, we were out for around 4 hours the weather was perfect and we seen lots of different pods of them. They are currently migrating south to Antarctica hence why you can see them so often. Just as we were about to head back we followed a mum and her calf and the calf was breaching out the water loads then the mum did and my god i nearly shit myself - it was absolutely MASSIVE I thought the babies were big enough but this was incredible - I got such a fright there was no way I was getting a picture haha - she wasn't far from the boat at all hence the fright i got haha
. All the pics I have on this are of baby whales. The boat was also able to put a microphone thing in the water and you could hear the whales talking to each other - so cool.
So a successful day out it was well worth the extra drive and money utterly amazing.
We headed back to the van and cooked up a BBQ fest for us on yet another stunning beach.
