Fraser Island Tour - Day 1

Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia
So we were picked up at 0730 this morning for our 2 day tour of Fraser Island. The island itself is nothing but sand, 75 miles long and 15 miles wide and is the largest sand island in the world. Most of it is rainforest and its our home for the next 2 days.

Typical for us the bad weather was following us down the coast, we heard that just days after we left Cairns that the roads around had been closed due to huge amounts of flooding so we got out just in time . So day one of our sand island and it was cloudy with occasional sunshine.

We were driven in this bus type vehicle designed for the sand so when we got off the boat to the island it was a straight drive up 75 mile beach, its mad there are people in their 4 wheel drive and normal road rules and speed restrictions apply - still it feels mad hurtling up the beach at 80km/h

Over the course of the day we visited Lake Wabby which is a gorgeous freshwater lake and green in colour, the famous Lake McKenzie which typically it rained when we got here, we went a walk in the rainforest and learned about the logging that used to take place and loads of other stuff. It was a great day out we got a buffet lunch and dinner so needless to say us poor backpackers stuffed our faces the food was delicious hehe.

I was absolutely shattered that night and was asleep by 8.30pm - all the driving has caught up with me I was out like a light haha.

Lets hope the weather is better tomorrow!
