Salt Flat Tour - Day 4

Uyuni, Bolivia
So after last nights rain we were excited to get to the salt flats – the pools of water on the salt causes a mirror effect which makes it look utterly amazing – so up at 4am again and totay I was dead I felt utterly exhausted. There were lots of jeeps all leaving at the same time and slowly as it got light you could see the water on the salt and sure enough it was perfect amount of water to get those amazing pictures.

We stopped at this island in the middle of the salt flats and we were given time to walk around while Sylvia prepared breakfast . It was totally freezing this morning and the walk on the island involved a climb up one side of it – this is a mission for unfit me any day of the week but I was exhausted today and the altitude meant you were stopping every 2 mins to get a breath. The island was cool though it was covered in huge Cactus plants they were massive – I love cactus.

Back at the bottom it was breakfast and a nice warm cuppa tea but the weather had other plans it was dark clounds and drizzly rain – totally NOT the weather for taking pics or even being on the salt flats – it all looked brown and gloomy.

It was only 8am we remained hopeful but no – the rest of the morning was rain, rain freezing winds and dark clouds which meant the salt flats looked brown instead of gleaming white and certainly no reflections as there was no sun.

To say I was gutted was an understatement FOUR days crammed in a jeep, little sleep, no decent shower and sheer exhaustion to get to shitty brown salt flats I had seen so many cool pics but no, not ours !!!

We stopped at an old train graveyard where loads of old unused trains had been left – again though it was freezing and now it was time to head into Uyuni the tour was over and we were miserable – no photos of the salts it was horrible.

We arrived at a hostel in town where we had our last lunch- by this point we had decided that we would have to take another tour when the weather brightened up as we refused to leave with horrible shitty pictures.

After lunch the sun had came out and most of the clouds had cleared, thanks to Sun and her being able to speak Spanish our day was not yet over…………….

To be Continued…………..
