Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz, Bolivia
So here goes for the mammoth journey..........its a long blog but to read all this, but its only a fraction of the journey time we endured haha

Like I said before we went to Bolivia first to save money as its much cheaper than Brazil and our funds are running short - we knew we had to do this journey and if anyone reading is thinking of doing this - its not for the faint hearted of people if you hate dust, dirty buses and get bored easily its not for you haha . If we had to I am sure we would do it again but that 24 hr bouncy bus was defo THE worst journey we had done so far mainly due to the heat and the bouncyness not the length of time we are used to the long journeys now - just not bruised arses from getting thrown from your seat !!!

Day 1 - 17th Dec

*Leave the hostel in Sucre, Bolivia at 2.30pm
*Get on the shittiest ricketiest bus we have been on yet in our travels and leave Sucre at 3.30 and we drive 15 hours through the night on bendy roads and a good 7 hours of this was on a complete dirt track road with no air con on the bus all the windows were open and you inhaled dust constantly, our seats kinda reclined but it was grim.

 18th Dec -
We arrive in Santa Cruz, Bolivia around 7am in the morning

We proceed to try and get a ticket to Paraguy - in Bolivia you can only buy tickets in the actual town you want to depart from - no booking this from other towns so its hit or miss if u get a ticket that day . This was for the 24 hour journey and the company the lonely planet said was best seemed to be shut - the other company was being really pushy speaking no english of course but there were only 5 seats left on that bus - we waited till 8am incase others opened but it didnt so we booked with the only company there was and getting the last 2 seats on the bus....the 2 seats right at the back beside the toilet !!! He assures us the bus has air con and we get food but who knows.

Time to kill
We head into Santa Cruz for a wander as the bus didnt leave till 7.30pm that night so we had the day to kill - this sucked as it was sunday and pretty much everything is closed and as were were back at normal altitude it was now a ridiculous 38C - heat we had not really been in since err Thailand probably and it was a shock to the system we were baking !!

We get on the bus at 7pm and got our rice and chicken dinner - the seats were so old and dirty but at least they reclined we figured how bad can it be ........................

Well about 2 hours into the journey as we got out of Santa Cruz we realised how it was gonna be - there was suddenly no road we were back on dirt track and any paved bit had pot holes from hell - remember this bus is absolutely ancient god knows how it even stayed together it clearly had no suspension in it either.

We spent the whole night LITERALLY bouncing out of our seats and I mean our full bodies - we had a wee sleeping tablet so that had helped but I woke at one point to see people falling out of their chairs the bus had swerved to miss the pot hole and hit it hard haha - was unreal. We had to get off the bus at 3am to get our passport stamped out of Bolivia, noone ever speaks english but we jut follow the crowd and we seem to do ok - then it was back on the bus !

19th Dec
So we got some breakfast of a sandwich and cold juice so it wasnt too bad but fook me it was getting hot and it was now pretty evident the air con just didnt work - it wasnt just us everyone was sweating mopping their brow's n stuff . It reminded us of being back in India cause it was definately then we experienced heat like this. Your back was just sticking to the horrible old seat with sweat - people were opening the windows but the air was so hot they had to close them again - it was like opening an oven door.

We endured this all day along with the pot holes, the road eventually got better around lunch time after we did the Paraguay immigration entry. We were literally lined up against a wall with our bags in front of us and these guys were kitted out to the max, bullet proof vests guns they were well scarey. It came to our turn and I though fooking hell my pack is full to burst its gonna be a nightmare to search - I literally opened the top bit and he just said ok without even looking in lol and after finding out we were from Scotland proceeded to try and talk about Princess Diana, whisky and kilts haha - too funny.

So for the rest of the day we mainly died of heat - we finally arrived at Asuncion at 7pm that night . The journey was far from over....

Bus no 3 - 19th Dec
After a 4 hour wait in Asuncion, Paraguay we finally got on our next bus to Ciudad del Este at 23.00 and were told we would arrive around 7am the next morning - the bus seats barely reclined but we were exhausted.  The bus was utterly freeeeezing too its the same on all the buses why why why do you need the air con blasting cold at night its unreal brrrrrrrr
20th Dec
We were woken with the lights coming on and the bus coming to a stop we had arrived at Ciudad del Este the border crossing are to Brazil - except it was 5.30am not 7am grrrrr

We had met a Bolivian guy who spoke English on the bus and he sorted out a taxi to get through the Brazil border and drop us at the bus station in Foz de Iguassu our final destination.

We got through immigration quick we didnt even have to take our bags out to get checked and eventually we were in Brazil .

TOTAL TRAVEL TIME FROM START TO FINISH - 65 HOURS

We had made it - the only thing left to do was book our bus ticket to Florianopolis - got it sorted no prob then it was another taxi to finally arrive at our hostel !!!

Costs
Ticket from Sucre to Santa Cruz - £7 each
Bus ticket from Santa Cruz - Ciudad del Este - £52 each
Taxi from
Ciudad del Este through immigration to bus station - £7.23 for me and marc

Just incase you think we are mental for doing (well we are) but the alternative cost of a flight from Sucre to Iguassu was £454 each !!!
