We're on our way to Forest City, IA

Clear Lake, Iowa, United States
(Note: We have been back for a couple of weeks)

After seeing an article in our local paper about Winnebago relocations, we decided it might be an inexpensive way to see some of our own beautiful country . A local rental company apparently needed people to drive out newly made vehicles from the Winnebago factory in Iowa to their various West Coast agencies. It's a win-win as the agency charges $10 per nite, which came to a grand total of $110 in our case. And yes, they allow you to use the facilities!

As usual, Roxanne did all the coordination and planning which entailed arranging a flight, booking a rental car to get to the factory, finding and booking campsites, as well as all the other bits and pieces that go into planning a trip. I did all the heavy lifting like remembering to pack my toothbrush and figuring out which hiking shoes I would wear.

We arrived at our local airport after taking advantage of a cheap Uber ride (who knew there was someone 2 minutes away from our house waiting to take us to the airport..... in a Mercedes no less?) As we were waiting to board the plane, we both heard a loud boom and saw the plane list to one side as the ground crew was loading the luggage. We both just looked at each other in surprise. "I think they just loaded your toiletry bag" I said as I cover my head, waiting to get bopped.

After a relatively short flight we landed in Des Moines, picked up a rental car, and drove to Clear Lake, Iowa (what are we doing in shorts and thongs... it's 35 degrees out!) Tomorrow we drive to Forest City, Iowa, home of the Winnebago Factory, to pick up our home away from home for the next 11 days. Roxanne sent out an email to those who we thought would be interested in joining us. The result was one other "brave" couple (Bob and Deb... friends who we met on our Great Barrier Reef cruise). There were others that wanted to join, but it just didn't fit into their schedule.

In the next couple of posts we will do our best to tell you what it was like living in a motor home for ten days and the wonderful sights that we saw along the way. Stay tuned.

What a great trip. Out next door neighbors have a Minnie Winnie so we know exactly what you are driving. Very nice!

Ahhh...what an adventurous life you two live. I'd love to read a book titled "The Life and Times of Rox and Mark". Miss you two. Hope we get to be with you again one day.
