Left Ottawa on February 4th - traveled via Toronto, Port of Spain (Trinidad) and finally on to Paramaribo, Suriname - arriving late on February 4th.
February 5th - I had a bit of time to walk around
. It poured rain for most of the morning. And in the afternoon the sun came out, Humid and 30oC - feels like 36
I took the opportunity to walk around the hotel grounds and also parts of the old city. There is a very old fort - Fort Zeelandia and areas where the dutch style houses are well preserved.
The area near the hotel is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is also the main seat of government with the presidential palace and the national assembly nearby.
The hotel and the city are located very close to the main river - clearly a working river, with fishing boats, pilot boats and ocean cargo ships either tied up at docks or sailing by.
There is a two masted sailing ship - tied up at the dock up from the hotel, though I didn't see it out sailing.
Very hot and humid. I walked for about 2 hours and was very glad to come back and cool off in the hotel. I bought some flowers for my hotel room - as I am here for 6 days.
I start work tomorrow - so no more blogging until Friday
