KC tour

Kansas City, Kansas, United States
We started out the day with a delicious breakfast (including quiche!) made by our lovely hostesses and had a great conversation with them over the meal. We got all prettied up and went to Mass at St. James church, and even though we showed up late, it was the most welcoming Mass I've ever seen. It was name tag Sunday, so everyone could figure out each other's names which was good because we met a lot of people and got to learn more about the parish. They represent 22 different countries and reflect their diversity in their style of worship. It was really cool. The greatest thing was that during the sign of peace, everyone would get up and walk around and hug each other, and if you didn't know someone you introduced yourself. It was a really cool community. Mom and dad celebrated Mass with us, so that was cool too, and we met up with them at Winsteads on the plaza after taking a stroll around Loose Park. The girls loved the skyscraper idea and were very excited about the song that came with it. From there we went to the Liberty Memorial and the WWI Museum which was really cool, there's always something new to do and learn there. Even though WWI happened and ended and is over, I found it relevant to our purpose for this week. So many problems arise out of cultural differences. Some are too proud, some are too judgmental of other cultures, and some have a mixture of both. This lack of respect and understanding for others due to self-focus can literally cause a Great War. This week we may not be doing something gigantic, but hopefully we build some bridges with at least a few people. Creating community and recognizing every single person as a brother or sister are keys to a happier lifestyle for everyone.
K so moving on, we then drove to the Jazz and Negro Baseball League museums . We got a sweet deal (shh!) and we got to learn about two very important pieces of history that closed the gap between cultures. We took a peek around the Blue Room too so that was cool.... Then we went to dinner with Henry, a 2010 Marquette alum who is now a lawyer... Super cool and fun guy, he showed us the Power and Light District, and told us about all the cool hip things a young adult does in KC. Then we went to a restaurant called BRGR, known for their burgers, but I got a Mac n cheese and it was DELICIOUS. I brought leftovers back for a fun midnight snack haha. From there we checked out Union Station and had a grand ole time ballroom dancing in the grand hall. We were pretty pooped after the long day, and so we went back to the house and had reflection right away (still discussing good topics) and headed straight to bed. We're super pumped for our first day at Restart tomorrow!
