After a fun New Year's Eve with my sister and my friend, it was time to head to France! I got off to Dallas just fine, but my flight to Paris was delayed (still unsure why). After attempting to meet up with my friend Kristen downtown, I decided I should just stay in the airport. I attended a prayer service which was interesting but nice, and ate at Cereality- a cereal bar that I've wanted to go to for my whole life. It was SO good. I got a s'more combination- coco puffs, Golden Grahams, chocolate chips, and marshmallows. YUM. Ya my time in Dallas wasn't terrible.
We finally boarded and unfortunately the plane was a bit more dated than what I was banking on, so I watched one movie and tried to sleep since my devices were all dead
. Luckily I was able to find a charging station upon my arrival in Paris. Oh also it was snowing when we landed so that was pretty. Since the flight was delayed so much, I wasn't able to make Mass at Notre Dame which I was really disappointed about. Turns out it was really lucky that I scheduled myself a late train for Annecy- after charging and doing a phone interview with the school, figuring out how to get to Gare de Lyon was very time-consuming. I also hadn't moved in a while and was starting to feel like a permanent turtle with my backpack. I FINALLY got to the train station and I had some time to walk out to the real world and find an ATM. Ya I spent less than 10 minutes above ground/outside... good to be back in Paris! After trying to nap/stay warm in my scarf, my train finally came and about five minutes into the ride I was out. I only slept an hour, but it definitely a solid and much-needed sleep. It's crazy how much more comfortable a train seat is versus an airplane seat. For $8 I got a risotto dinner that had chicken and eggplants and all the good stuff, and it was less calories than my orange juice that morning- pretty dang ok for the TGV bar. (this is where I fell asleep and am now adding to it six months later) I probably fell asleep again after dinner, and then we finally got to Annecy. I had that exciting moment when you walk off the train and have no idea who you're meeting, but I finally found Michèle and we hopped in her car and were off. The Christmas lights were still up and it was so gorgeous! It was definitely a hilly terrain. We pulled up to the house and met Michel and La Bête (the cat had a different name, but this is what they called it all the time- I have never seen a fatter cat). They were both so welcoming and offered me dinner, which I most likely took them up on. They could see that I was gross and tired, so they let me shower and go right to sleep- holy cow it was so nice to finally be clean, without a backpack, and using something other than my scarf for a bed.
