Day 4

Annecy, Rhône-Alpes, France
Today was my final day of class as well as my last full day in Annecy. We began with my harder class- it was good although I had the less energetic teacher. For the break we had a galette des rois (like the night before). I really enjoy the people in that class, and it was hard to say goodbye to them. I left right after the break to go to the mountains with my friend. She's so so kind and took me to a regional cooperative cheese store- it had a certain smell for sure, but they had tons of cheese and some sausages and chocolate as well. It's the same place Madame likes to get her cheese, so I knew what I wanted. I got a small stronger cheese to share with the Strehaino's. Afterwards we headed into the mountains even more- the drive there was incredible. Lots of cliffs and a blanket of snow- it was very cool. I got to see people ski too! I didn't realize it, but I had never seen anyone ski in real life. They go all the way down the mountain and they go so fast! I was thinking what it'd be like to sled down that track- it'd be one heck of a ride!
We eventually got to our stop, and thankfully the sun has come out so we could see Mont Blanc- the tallest mountain in Europe . It was really really cool.
On our way back we picked up some warm quiches for lunch and got back to school- only five minutes late! I really enjoyed my outing with Angie- it was fun to hear about her life in France from the American perspective.
Class was a bit long; we had the same teacher as the morning and it was good but we did high school-ish exercises for four hours. During the break we had another galette des rois (I still didn't find the toy). After class I went to the post office to mail some things... Who knew it would take so long! They don't sell envelopes so that was helpful. So I went to a paper store and picked up some and went to a bar to fill everything out. Nothing like writing Christmas cards with a glass of Heineken! I FINALLY got them all done and went back to the post office to drop them off. By this time it's almost 8:30 and I didn't think to look at my bus schedule to check the times at night. I got to the stop and waited a bit in the cold before checking and realizing I had missed the precious bus by two minutes, and the next one came in forty minutes. It was a bit cold but I waited and waited and waited and finally it came. I apologized to the Roubaud's for being so late, and they were kind and gave me a warm bowl of soup and some local sausage and potatoes- wow it was good. Really good. I wish I could bring back sausage. Their daughter CĂ©line came over for the weekend, and she was super nice and kind about me using her room. We spent a bit of time talking after dinner and eventually I headed upstairs to shower and pack. I'm very sad to be leaving Annecy, but I had a really good time and learned a lot and spoke a lot so it was well worth the trip :)
