Day 32 Bath to Kings Cross and Lion King

London, England, United Kingdom
After saying our goodbyes to Karen and Hugh as they went to work our taxi arrived to take us to Spa Station. A final goodbye to Kate and off we went.

Our train from Bath arrives at Paddington Station; a pleasant hour and a half journey. The only problem was, when I booked our London accommodation months earlier, I was advised that trains from Bath arrive at Kings Cross Station and booked two nights at the Premier Inn, right next door in York Way. However, by arriving at Paddington Station instead prompted us to consider how best to get to Healthrow on our exit in two nights, as the Heathrow Express leaves from Paddington. Rather than fuss with underground, we decided to get a London Taxi to transfer the few km from Paddington to Kings Cross. This was also helpful as the driver advised us to save money and take the underground from St Pancras Kings Cross to Heathrow - the Express from Paddington is quick and direct, but expensive and we still had the transfer from Kings Cross.

Having checked into our room, we didn't venture far except to have lunch at MacDonalds at the end of the street, returning to our room to plan our route to the Lion King show at the Lyceum Theatre, Covent Garden later in the evening. Karen had kindly bought the family tickets as a birthday presents for Susan and I. I also booked online, 48 hour The Original Tour bus tickets for tomorrow and our last day. It was the ideal way to see as much of London in a short time - as we did in Paris a week earlier. As the second day was discounted it was a worthwhile upgrade and provided a back-up and means to get around.

The Lion King show was scheduled for 7.30pm, but we decided to head for Covent Garden early and have dinner near by. Kate and Paul had given us their Underground 'Oyster' top-up tickets; so we used these and bought tickets for the girls. Our first underground trip, especially from Kings Cross St Pancras to Covent Garden was a bit anxious, as it involved an lift further down as the Covent Garden line was lower, the lift was cramped and we were still nervy from the Christchurch earthquakes.

We popped out into a balmy sunny evening and walked down James St toward Covent Garden among the upmarket shops and alfresco cafes. We decided on a quaint french cafe Cafe Rouge, as it was within eyesight of the Lyceum further down Wellington St and a nice reminder of our weekend in Paris. It was a nice meal and the waiter was fun.

The Lion King was a fantastic experience. We had good seats. The girls had seen the movie and knew the music, but live show was special. I managed to get some pictures in the dark before the cameras green on LED was seen by a steward, embarrassing the girls! The show finished around 10.30 and we were back at our hotel by 11pm. A great night.
