We got the train down from Hanoi which was another 12 hr mission, we got a sleeper cabin again but this time we had to share it with another couple, luckily they were nice. Unlike the Thai trains the Vietnamese feel its necessary to let you know what your not allowed to bring on the train with you. The announcement came over the tanoy listing all the usual things no alcohol, no smoking, no drugs, no weapons. Then it became a little weird no animals, no dead animals, no blood, no dismembered body parts, no dead bodies and finally no diseased corpse!! I would of thought that goes without saying, the worrying thing was the fact that they had to remind people! We got into Hue about 11am and the weather was not the best at all... cold and wet! It reminded me of somewhere we came to the other side of the world to get away from. After a few hours chilling we decided to go and have a walk around town. There is a place called the Imperial Citadel which is a collection of temples and tombs amongst other things I would imagine, but after a 20 minute walk to get there it was closed for the Chinese new year... Or as the Vietnamese call it, 'the Tet holiday'! I guess this must have slipped the receptionist's mind when she was sending us there. Anyway we had a nice walk around and decided that there wasn't a great deal going on due to the Tet holiday. Recently everything seems to be blamed on the Tet, prices going up and things not being available. This morning for example I fancied some beef Pho; the local breakfast, basically noodle soup with beef. Not available apparently because of Tet so I settled for omelet and toast literally ten minuet later a Vietnamese man got given a great big bowl of steaming Pho!! Anyway we wanted some sun so we hopped on the bus down to Hoi An in the hope for better weather.
