Koh Chang , Trat, Thailand
We arrived at Cliff Cottages where we were stay around 8pm (3hrs late thanks to the awesome bus service and border control). We had booked a bamboo cottage on Bang Bao beach for a couple of nights, the "cottage" was more like a shed. All it had was a fan and a bed, but what else do you need? And we only paid £4 a night so... The next day we hired some snorkels and took advantage of the rocky bay that we were staying around, we spent over 3 hours just swimming around, checking out the fish, clams, coral and sea cucumbers, we would of liked to take some pictures but our underwater case had developed a hole! After seeing the amount of fish I thought I would try out my luck with some fishing, so Mel went off to the bar to write her journal and I set off down the rocks. Unfortunately as soon as I got to my spot the heavens opened!! I managed to run back to the bar before getting too wet and that was it for the rest of the day, all that night and all the next morning I've never seen rain like it! The little path down from our hut was literally a river! We decided that we would like somewhere a little more lively so we moved up the island to Lonely beach which has some bars and more people around so we stayed two more nights there and took full advantage of the drinking opportunities. Then it was time for some much needed luxury, we went from a hut on a cliff to a 5* room in the Sea View resort courtesy of Mel's dad. We checked in and had to be taken to our room via golf buggy because it was perched high on the hillside. The view from the balcony was amazing looking out over the sea and seeing all the little islands dotted around. The room it's self must of been 8 times the size of our hut we stayed in and for the first time in a while we had air con. That afternoon we just chilled in the pool near our room then went to a fisherman's village for a sea food dinner. The next day was spent chilling down at the privet beach where there was another even bigger infinity pool. After sunbathing for a while I got board and decided to hire a snorkel and have a look round one of the many reefs just off the beach. I was just swimming along looking at the fish when I came face to face with a massive cuttlefish! This thing must of been 18 inches long and didn't look to happy with me starring at it so I quickly moved on. I kept noticing the same little fish popping up every where i turned, it was following me around and by the time I was on my way back to shore I had 5 or 6 of them all swimming underneath me. That night just before we went out Dave called us into his room and showed us a huge Preying Mantis he had found on his curtain he'd managed to catch it in half pint glass which it hardly fitted in and we released it off the balcony. For dinner we went down to white sands beach and watched a fire show while eating our food on the sand. The next day Mel and I hired a kayak so we could check out one of the islands. I decided to try some fishing along the way but had no luck! When we got to the island which was further than we thought we did some snorkeling and chilled for a while before heading back for a nice cool dip in the pool. We went for a steak that night but paid for it the next day as Mel and I both had food poisoning, we reckon it was from the sauces we had with our steaks as Dave didn't have one with his and he was fine, I also think it could be something to do with the malaria tablets we were taking luckily this was our last night of them. The drive back to Bangkok was pretty horrific and we had to pull over quickly several times!! Dave actually got done for speeding at one point but all he had to do was get out 400 baht (8 quid!) and they soon let him off! I wish it was that easy at home.
