Lonely Bay

Pounawea, Otago, New Zealand
We woke up early the next morning to the crashing sea on the beach behind us. It was about 7.30am and it was still dark outside. I could just see the shapes of a couple of seals playing in the surf. Today was planned to be a big day. We were going to go and see the Purakanui Falls, Jack's Blowhole which is a 55m blowhole where the waves shoot out of the top of it, then we were going to Cannibal Bay, where it was possible to see Elephant seals. Unfortunatly the weather was pants and got worse throughout the day. We managed to see the falls and go to Cannibal Bay, but we didn't see any Elephant seals. By the time we got to Jack's Blowhole it was chucking it down with rain and it was a 30 min walk to get there so we decided not to bother and instead just head to Te Anau where we were staying the night. It took us a few hours to get there, it was around 4pm, just in time for us to book a trip to Milford Sound for the next day.
