It was only a three hour flight to Fiji, landing
in Nadi airport from Auckland, and it is also the same time zone as New Zealand which is handy. We met a raelly nice lady on the plane from New Zealand called
Alison and if we ever go back we have a place to stay. We were looking forward
to a Fijian welcome with music and lei's, but instead once we'd got our bags we
were ushered into an office to check in. We were under the impression that we
had booked an all inclusive Full Monty, Tropical Awegasm package with the
Awesome Adventures company, along with a welcome and departure pack. What we
got was a different story! We got no man holding our name up waiting to take us
to our hotel; we got no lei put around our neck and we got no welcome drink!
All of which we'd been promised when we booked the package in Bryon Bay.
Feeling quite done over we had to try and sort it all out. Apparently we had
the wrong voucher number on our ticket and had accomodation only booked, no
welcome or departure package. We had paid over a $100 each extra for these
packages so we wouldn't have to deal with the rigmarole of the airport. But
despite our protests, there was nothing they could do from their end and we
would have to get in touch with 'Travel Bugs' who sold it to us. This meant we
had to get our own transport to the hotel from the airport, we had to wait
nearly two hours for this by which time we were both rather pissed off. This
was NOT the relaxing start we'd expected! It was dark by the time we got to the
hotel so we checked in, had a meal and went to bed hoping that tomorrow would
be the real start to our Fiji adventure.
