Kerkhoven, West Flanders, Belgium
Woke up to sunshine and 18 .....it's supposed to be cloudy with showers in Lisbon ! Had a nice breakfast, spent sometime in the garden and packed....then drove to Eindhoven Airport which took about an hour. Now waiting for our Transavia flight HV 6203 which leaves at 1645. We'll meet Claire at he airport in Lisbon as her Ryanair flight gets in at 1930. Didn't realize it was a 3 hour flight but a 1 hour time difference as it is 1 our back...on England's time zone. The airport is small and filled with cheap vacation flights. Bit like a bus terminal. Noisy and crowded.
We had an uneventful flight... No food unless you paid and the Flight Attendants were perfunctory at best. It was funny though the uniforms were the same green as the old PWA 1970 uniforms. Arrived in Lisbon early and disembarked too a bus to the far end of the terminal which was a zoo... Too many people and flights and the terminal was under construction and too small. ..we waited for over an hour for Claire as her flight was late. Finally we found each other and then joined the line up for the taxis....waited for 30 minutes but eventually got a cab and had such a nice thrived...young and enthusiastic and a tour guide as well.. Finally arrived at 119 Rua do Seculo at 9:30 and met the owner Maria... Very sweet.. She renovated/ split her large apt into a small one which we rented and a larger one in which she lives... Just next door..
The apt is lovely; less than 2 years old and just like the photos.... Clean, modern and she has thought if everything.....lots of dishes, pots, a washer and dryer....just a bit noisy as the street is old cobblestones, and busy and we are under the airport flight path. But it has shuttles and roller blinds but it has been hit and muggy so if you shut everything it gets boring inside. Very comfy bed and lovely shower...of corse the drain doesn't drain fast enough for W. Lovely towels and Maria provided custard tarts, water, tea and coffee....very nice!
Once we unpacked a bit we walked up Rua Seculo and had supper at 10:00 at a local restaurant called Tas'cardoso at Rua do Seculo # 242.... Very small, maybe 10 tables with very friendly servers....we had steaks and potatoes and salad withTinto Verde red wine...met a charter crew from Bergamot...everyone is so friendly .....a really fun night.
