Lisboa, Lisboa, Portugal
Woke up late again and had eggs and bacon then walked up Ave Liberdade which is a very expensive ave...to Museum Gulbenkian...a small but beautiful museum ...he was a very rich oil magnate who collected all sorts of treasures. It was very hot and muggy but quite windy, we went by Metro and then Tram 15 to Belem and the Jeronimo Monastery.....beautiful old church and cloisters but really crowded as it was free as the first Sunday of the month.... So we didn't stay too long.. Took the train back to Cais de Sodre. We stopped at the Mercado Ribeira which is the large market and food center...had lovely beer and tapas and a very enjoyable few hours. Then we walked up hill again...seems all Lisbon is up and down...mostly up!
We ate at Bom Estar which had been written up as great in several books and articles but was very small, touristy and only so so food.....we had shrimps and salt cod cakes.....the wine was good... Then we walked back uphill to Santinis for gelato...had some directional help from a very friendly girl on the street...the Portugese people are so friendly and helpful....even in the Metro.
Now we are home and enjoying another glass of white wine.....
