To Sintra and H+M

Lisboa, Lisboa, Portugal
So we woke up a little earlier, had a nice breakfast of eggs and ham and then set off to Rossio train station to catch the train to Sintra. It was hot and muggy in Lisbon but by the time we arrived at the station in Sintra we were in the clouds and it was damp and cool.. It was a,l a bit confusing as there were no directional signs to the 434 bus which goes up to the Pena Palace.....after a long misty wait of 15 minutes we caught the bus to Sintra village then the Moorish Castle and finally the Palace..it was 14 € each for the palace and 5 € each for the bus but the palace was quite nice....part of it was an old Hiermonite Monastery that was remodeled by King Ferdinand II in the early 1800s and of course he built on to make it more palatial.
The wind was whistling and howling across the mountain to so it was quite interesting. It would be a lovely view if the sun was shining but we were really socked in and visibility was only a foot or so.. After 2 hours of exploring the palace we caught the shuttle bus back down the mountain....the road is very narrow and the bus needs to back up to negotiate one of the tight turns. Just caught the train back to Lisbon but then realized it did. Ot go back to Rossio so we had to change trains....eventually we arrived back to Lisbon..
Claire and I then hit H+M where she found a cozy gray long sweater and a pretty blue blouse plus a light gray scarf. It started to pour as we were about to leave so we waited a bit and then bought another umbrella and found the Baixa/ Chiado Metro Station which we took to Cai de Sodre and the Mercado De Ribiera......had a lovely bottle of white wine from Viseau called Chameleou ....we the bought a Hamburger from Honorato Artisanal Hamburgers, a Steak sandwich with cheese and Porobello Mushrooms from Cozinha De Felicidade and cod fritters from Miguel de Castro Silva....yummy and dry as the rain had stopped. I had also bought a cardigan at H+ M as it was really chilly.
We then wLked almost straight uphill to Rua de Pedro V and to the restaurant Cervicearia which is just around the corner from the apt. Had 3 different kinds of Cerviche: a cod Portuguese one, an orientalist tuna one and an original white fish and lime one....the house wine was great and after waiting outside for 30 mins. the service was great. Price was 65 € which was higher the we have paid before but it was very yummy.
