Porto, Porto, Portugal
Last full day in Porto and it's sunny and warm.. Had a nice breakfast in the food area of the BnB....toasted baguette, scrambled eggs, fresh bread, homemade jams, cheese, cold us, OJ, coffee and warmed milk......started out on the walking tour Mariana had suggested......first to the Mercado which is very old and quite decrepit but has fruits, veggies, meat, fish, flowers, tourist stuff.....old. Endors and it looks like it could fall down at any time.. the back to the Colegia Tower and Univ. of Oporto, and the churches near by...very ornate with gold painted trim on all the statues..Too ornate for me..walked around the old part of town but all the churches were either closed or charged to go inside so we just walked......ended up at a nice bar on the Ribeiria and had a couple of beers in the sunshine....met a nice couple from NYork..then walked all the way to Vila Gaia de Nove where the Port tasting houses.......we walked back over the bridge and up a very long flight of stairs to Santa Clara church to find it closed for renos.
So came back to the BnB to finish packing and have a rest...my cold is getting worse unfortunately...walked over to Medeira Street to Tapa Bento for dinner and managed to squeeze in as we didn't have a reservation but the service was so slow we left again and went to the little restaurant, Casa Pasto Ribatejo down the street from the BnB....we arrived at 8:00 and there was no one there....tried to sit outside under a he grape vine bower but it was a bit too cold....had Black Pork with fries and cabbage....interesting combo! Everything was too salty but the waiter was very nice.....he had worked the cruise ships for 10 years so his English was excellent.
Came home around 10 and finished packing..tomorrow we are off to Zurich n the morning..
