Bordeaux Day 2
After another great breakfast and chatting with the Dutch couple we started our walk on this bank of Bordeaux....we walked down Rue Thiers which is the main intersecting street where the trams run. Across the street are old RR yards that are being redeveloped into condos and work spaces....the University has a nearby campus and there is a Botanical garden behind St Marie de Bastide, the local church.....beyond that is the green space next to the river which has walking and biking trails. We also found Kazerne Darwin Niel which is an old military camp that has been repurposed into a Bio Brewery, bakery do deli with a restaurant and artist spaces as well as a performance stage, a skateboard park and a roller rink.....a gardening space and craft studios are planned as well..
We then walked back towards the Pont Pierre and walked down the Quai to the antique Halle on Rue Notre Dame. Being lunchtime the antique market was closed so we found a cafe terrace at the Chartron Market and sat in the sun for awhile sharing a salad and some wine. We then checked out the Navy Frigates that were docked by the Pont Pierre....and there were thousands of people walking and biking, boarding roller blading etc on the Quai and Rue St Catherine was so crowded....eventually we had another glass of wine around the corner from Melodie and then walked all the way down the Quai after investigating the antique flea market at Quinconces.
We arrived at Melodie just before 8:00 and had another great meal....the little street was packed with people dining outside, inside, everywhere. Now it's almost 11:00 and we are off to bed as tomorrow we go to St George in the Loire valley. Unfortunately it's supposed to rain all week...boo hoo. It was lovely and sunny today.
