Centre
We had a long travel day yesterday: we had another yummy breakfast with Natalie at the Bord'O BnB in Bordeaux....yummy baguette, croissants, cheeses, yogurt, fresh fruit and juices and a wonderful lemon cake and of course all the cafe au lair we could drink.we talked with a young couple from Edinburgh... A. Long weekend trip only 100€ return....he is a rugby player so they had gone to watch Wales vs Toulouse the night before...
Then we packed up and left around 10:30. I thought it would be nice to meander down the small roads toward Bergerac and then via the countryside around Perigeaux....but after meandering for a couple of hours and realizing how few Kms we actually had travelled we gave up and went via the motorway N21, around Limoges towards Orleans but then West towards Tours....just as we turn westward a torrential rainstorm finally caught us and did it ever rain....and windy too! Luckily it only lasted half an hour or so....we finally found St George -Sur-Cher around 5:30 and Le Moulin by using Google maps and the coordinates.
Yvonne was helping at a Fete at a village nearby so she had left the key hidden near the main house. We let ourselves into the apartment and got settled....it's very cute with a sitting area downstairs, a fantastic patio overlooking the mill stream and upstairs the loft with the bed area, toilet and shower area.
Yvonne got back around 6:00 and we had a very nice dinner with her: rabbit roasted in a Crueset Dutch oven, noodles and fruit salad plus a couple of bottles of red wine- one we brought from Bordeaux and one from her cellar. Jeff is away playing Bridge but is to be home tomorrow sometime. It was a really nice evening. The main house is so nice...very contemporary French Country....they have put in on the market as Yvonne would like to retire from the BnB business....she has been doing it for 7 years and says it's time for a change...
She spent 3 months babysitting a Chateau in Southern Aquitane for a friends sister this past winter and has started walking everyday so would like to do the Compostele this fall. She's been walking 12 Kms ad and looks great.
She suggested we go to Chaumony-Sur-Loire today as there is an International Garden Show there that she has seen and says is fantastic!

So we woke up a bit later than usual as Yvonne had set up the breakfast for us in the main house and then went to do a village 18 km walk early this morning....breakfast was yummy...baguette of course, yummy sweet buns, yogurt and granola, fruit salad and yummy coffee. We then drove into Montrichard to but some salad and cod cuts for dinner as today is a big National Holiday in France and it would have been hard to get a reservation in a restaurant.
We found a Boucherie and bought deli salad and some pate, then some Brie at the supermarket.. Yvonne had given us some of the baguette and plates etc so we are set..
We drove to Chaumont-Sur-Loire and although the sky was pretty dark, we paid the 18€ each and toured th gardens first and then the Chateau. Part of the garden festival is a number of art installations from artists from all over the world...
they exhibited in the gardens, in the Chateau and even in the stables....some of the art was very interesting but much was a bit weird.

The gardens were really lovely....spring blossoms everywhere...and the Chayeau was interesting as it had been owned by Catherine de Medici well as Diane de Poitiers....both of whom were connected with Chateau Chenoceaux which we saw in 2015. We were also fortunate... Other than one shower lasting maybe 10 mins the weather was windy and mostly sunny. We took cover from the rain in a witches garden...one of the cool art exhibits.
Walter liked the horse stables because they are quite intact and have carriages, tack and stalls equipped like in the early 1900s. We walked down the gardens around the chateaux and sat in these old fashioned wicker sun chairs which were really quite warm as they sheltered you from the wind and another little rain shower.
We drove over the fields and wine area nearby to Chateau Cheverny which we may go to see tomorrow. Quite a cute village.
Now we are eating our picnic dinner and drinking a red Graves ...not bad....looks like it will pour though so tomorrow may be a good inside day!
